Data Capability Lead

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Data Capability Lead to bring to life Infoxchange’s mission of Technology for Social Justice.

This is a full or part-time fixed term (12 months) role based in our Melbourne office (we are a flexible workplace).

About the role

The Data Capability Lead is responsible for leading the newly established Data Catalyst Network. The network is an initiative by the Paul Ramsay Foundation and Infoxchange to:

  • lift the data capability of the NFP sector
  • create new and innovation partnerships to break cycles of disadvantage using data.

Activity will focus on (but is not limited to) services in the areas of education, employment and justice, as well as housing, homelessness and out-of-home care.

With a practical understanding of how data can be used to create social change, the Data Capability Lead will use their data expertise to build a suite of capacity building resources and help identify new ways of using data to disrupt cycles of disadvantage. They will coordinate activities for the network of 40+ for-purpose organisations and play a vital role in the success of the Data Catalyst Network.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Leading the Data Catalyst Network, a group of 40+ organisations who meet every 4-8 weeks and are committed to using data for social good and disrupting long-term cycles of disadvantage
  • Developing a toolkit (including guides, template dashboards, data structures/transformation and data quality improvement tools) that helps the NFP sector to strengthen their data capability, enhance their impact and achieve their data ambitions
  • Developing and providing a suite of services that strengthens the data capability of the NFP sector
  • Developing a webinar/training program (delivered by Infoxchange staff and partners) and to strengthen the data capability of the sector across the Asia-Pacific region
  • Embedding processes, instructions, and templates to facilitate improved data capability in the for-purpose sector.
  • Connecting multiple data and supporting analysis and interpretation to improve outcomes for people experiencing disadvantage.
  • Proactively champion the value of data as a strategic asset to disrupt cycles of disadvantage, and work with the Infoxchange communications team to communicate success stories and help NFP leaders understand the value of data capability, and that people need to be at the heart of change.

About you

  • 5+ years data experience
  • 3+ years NFP experience
  • Experience working with data sets relating to welfare, education or social need
  • Strong stakeholder management experience
  • Facilitation experience
  • Passion for using data to track social service delivery, improve outcome and solve societal problems
  • Demonstrated capability working with, navigating multiple and complex data domains
  • Ability to communicate data concepts and technical information in simple, accessible language for both technical and non-technical people
  • Experience with data governance, data definitions and data exchange agreements that enabled impactful outcomes
  • Excellent at identifying problems that have the highest value for stakeholders
  • A strong focus on results and real-world impact
  • Strong presentation, communication and coordination skills
  • Must have valid full working rights in Australia
