About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants is looking for a Cultural Resources Principal Investigator to join our Amherst, MA team.  Our team of accomplished environmental and cultural resources scientists is growing, and we are looking for dynamic individuals who are following their passion in delivering the highest-quality cultural resources work. Your role will be to manage projects, oversee fieldwork, complete analysis of results, and write project reports.

Our Amherst office offers a unique work environment and specializes in environmental compliance including cultural resources.  As a national company with Cultural Resource programs across the entire country, you will have frequent opportunities for paid travel to work nationwide, collaborate with other office personnel, and learn about other regional methodologies.

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity reporting to our Amherst, MA Cultural Resources Team Lead.  We offer a hybrid work environment!

What you will accomplish

  • Oversee all aspects of field research, data collection, inventory, analysis, and final report production insuring all is conducted in accordance with high quality standards.
  • Additional project management duties as needed: manage budgets, prepare proposals, interact with clients, and mentor and manage field staff.
  • Author large technical reports, research designs, treatment plans and other technical documents.
  • Maintain good working relationships with state and federal agency contacts and clients following relevant work protocols.

Experience and qualifications for success

Required:

  • Master’s degree in Archaeology or Anthropology
  • Meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards in professional archaeology.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of archaeology related fieldwork experience
  • Previous team leadership and /or supervisory experience

Preferred:

  • Five (5) years of archaeology related fieldwork experience is preferred
  • Experience with Section 106 and consultation
  • Past conference presentation experience
  • Emphasis in Northeast US region archaeology
  • Current technical specialization (i.e. lithic analysis, historical archaeology, GIS, architectural history, etc.)

  • Ability to travel 60% regionally.
  • Ability to pass a motor vehicle record screening.

An employee in this Amherst, MA position can expect an hourly pay rate of $26.00–33.00/hour. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
