Country Engagement Specialist

🇺🇸 United States 📝 FULL-TIME

This position can be based is based in our Washington, DC office and is remote-eligible and only for consideration within the United States where WRI is state registered. Existing work authorization is required at the time of application submission. WRI is unable to sponsor any visa work sponsorship for this position.

About the Program:

The NDC Partnership brings together more than 200 members, including more than 115 countries, developed and developing, and more than 80 institutions to create and deliver on ambitious climate action that helps achieve the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Governments identify their NDC implementation priorities and the type of support that is needed to translate them into actionable policies and programs. Based on these requests, the membership offers a tailored package of expertise, technical assistance, and funding. This collaborative response provides developing countries with efficient access to a wide range of resources to adapt to and mitigate climate change and foster more equitable and sustainable development.

Job Highlight:

Opportunity to support the breadth of work undertaken by the Country Engagement (CE) Workstream to support climate action in member countries – from strategic planning, data management, and internal team support to the engagement of member countries and partners and coordination of CE communication products from across the world. This position will work across the CE team and report directly to our CE Director.

What will you do

Executive Support (30%)

  • On behalf of Country Engagement (CE) Director, coordinate and help plan CE workstream convenings and other team gatherings, ensuring that meeting best practices are implemented
  • Support Country Engagement Director in managing Director’s calendar and inbox flow, supporting follow-up email correspondence as appropriate
  • Support Country Engagement Director in preparing concept notes, briefs, presentations, and talking points for strategic initiatives and partnerships, and/or other ad-hoc requests
  • Coordinate the design, tracking, and periodic review of CE’s annual work plan in alignment with the CE Strategy, 2021-2025 Work Program and M&E framework, and communication with internal and external parties

Communications (20%)

  • Support Country Engagement inputs into relevant NDC Partnership internal and external communications, including the monthly newsletter (external), the Country Engagement Opportunity Update (CEOU) (external), the SU biweekly (internal), the All-Staff meetings (internal), and others as needed
  • Coordinate CE team’s updates (periodicity to be confirmed) to the Country Pages on the NDC Partnership website
  • On behalf of CE Director, track the preparation of CE-related communication products in coordination with Regional Managers (RMs) and Regional Program Officers (RPOs), based on CE’s quarterly communications and dissemination plan

Internal and External Engagement (20%)

  • Support CE bi-monthly coordination calls with implementing and development partners, including the preparation of call materials, supporting the maintenance of contact lists (incl. updating CRM when needs for updates have been identified), as well as the drafting and editing of call reports
  • Support preparation of quarterly facilitator calls in collaboration with the Facilitator Coordinator Specialist, note-taking and preparation of follow-up report, and other coordination with Facilitator Coordinator Specialist as needed.
  • Support the organization of other CE-led calls and/or events, including scheduling, preparation of materials, drafting, and editing of notes from other CE-led calls as appropriate

Data Management (20%)

  • Manage Country Engagement tracking tools (using Monday.com), ensuring the structure reflects team needs, timely updates (monthly updates of Country Status Overview (CSO) Board, and other Boards as appropriate) and that old content is archived
  • Coordinate with other Support Unit team members to data is shared and tracked efficiently
  • Manage the Country Engagement SharePoint, Teams channel, and Dropbox systems, serving as the main point of contact, making updates as needed, and ensuring structure reflects team needs.

Analyses and Broader Team Support (10%)

  • Support the development of specific analyses for the Country Engagement team as needed
  • Support the management of special projects, including preparation of materials, tracking of information, organization of internal and external engagement, and other tasks as appropriate.

What you will need:

Education: You have an Undergraduate degree in a related field required (e.g., statistics, public policy, international development, etc.)

Experience:  You have 3+ years of full-time relevant work experience in a relevant field/ role.

  • Expertise in climate science, public policy, and/or international development as assets
  • Strong ability to interact with team members and external partners in a professional and diplomatic manner

Languages: Verbal and written proficiency in English is required. Spanish and/or French preferred; Portuguese as an additional asset.

Requirements: Existing work authorization is required where this position is based. WRI is unable to authorize visa work authorization.
