Existing work authorization is required at the time of application submission for the country office designated. WRI is not able to sponsor work authorization for this position.

Job Summary:
WRI is seeking a consultant to provide a strategic review of the 1.5 degree aligned scenarios that exist for the Oil and Gas sector and its various end use market segments (power, transport, chemicals, heating, industrial direct use, agriculture). This review will inform WRI’s emerging strategy on sectoral transformation and will identify and will overlay these O&G sector scenarios with commitments and activities underway that would roll out and scale up necessary shifts by 2030. WRI’s work alongside the Systems Change Lab and its the State of Climate Action indicators will be part of the review. The consultant will also provide a snapshot assessment of the companies leading and lagging along sectoral transformation areas as laid out in the State of Climate Action. The review would also provide WRI with a strategic recommendations on high impact policy, market development, supply chain action, and finance/investment analysis and partnership priorities and From public and private research sources, the consultant will identify research gaps and providing recommendations for baseline transformation pathways for WRI to use. S/he /they will provide research, analysis, and programmatic support to advance the Energy Program’s new strategy. This is a three-month limited term, fixed price contract.
Job Responsibilities:
• Conduct research and analysis on the oil and gas sector transformation pathways offered by independent organizations identify research and action gaps
• Provide a comprehensive review and assessment of key O&G industry reports published externally and internally
• Conduct limited external interviews and participate in selected industry events
• Review Africa oil and gas use assumptions
• Provide a comprehensive review and assessment of key O&G industry reports published externally and internally
• Review scenarios for O&G supply and demand. Note where variance from scenarios emerging due to Ukraine invasion and Russia sanctions/retaliatory market action
• Review the scenarios from WRI’s Systems Change Lab and State of Climate Action and compare the scenarios with action to date and advise which best reflects the pathway we are on
• Compare the activities of each of the oil and gas companies with the ambition of the 1.5-degree scenarios and with reference to the State of Climate Action scenario
• Recommend where WRI should focus its interventions including policy, market development, supply chain, finance and investment and partnership priorities
• Create overview assessment on key gaps and areas of progress strategy for WRI’s review
Job Qualifications:
• A masters degree in engineering, energy system analysis, business other relevant degree.
• Strong subject matter expertise in energy systems and international energy markets
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant research and analytics experience in a high-caliber environment specifically in the energy field
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills, alongside strong synthesis and strategic thinking skills
• Ability to structure analysis to solve critical questions and provide insights to senior stakeholders
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Comfortable presenting and facilitating discussions in a range of settings Preferred qualifications:
• An advanced degree (PHd) in a relevant field such as engineering, environmental policy, public policy, business administration, economics, or similar
Potential Salary:
Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
