Principal Functions
WWF Hong Kong has decades of experience in managing wetlands in the Deep Bay area for migratory waterbirds using the East Asia-Australasian Flyway (EAAF). To help conserve the integrity of the Flyway so that the birds can keep migrating between the wintering and breeding sites, the Asian Waterbird Conservation Fund (AWCF) was established to provide financial support to local NGOs and share our experience with them through managing the progress of the projects, providing on-site technical support, and organizing training to the project teams and their stakeholders.
Job Responsibilities
Assist in reviewing the funding applications to shortlist suitable applications for the AWCF Committee.
Announce successful applications, prepare agreements, and arrange funding transfers.
Monitor the work progress of the funded projects.
Provide on-site support such as conducting ecological surveys and questionnaire surveys, organizing environmental education activities, and meeting relevant stakeholders.
Organize wetland management training courses for the AWCF recipients and their stakeholders at Mai Po Nature Reserve.
Translate existing training materials, wetland management guidelines and manuals or other materials from Chinese to English or vice versa.
Support in talks and visits for local students to raise their awareness of the EAAF.
Keep updated with information related to the EAAF.
Other duties as required by operational needs.
Job Requirements
University Degree in ecology, environmental science, or other relevant disciplines.
A minimum of 3 years of related experience.
Knowledge and experiences on migratory waterbirds, wetlands and the EAAF are preferable.
Demonstrated good communication skills, including verbal and written communication, and presentation in English and Mandarin.
Self-motivated ability to work independently and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders under guidance from Manager.
Ability to set and maintain manageable priorities and develop activities plan well in advance.
Proficiency in using MS office is a must.
Approachable and friendly personality with the ability to interact with different people and situations.
Willingness to travel across different countries in Asia about 3-4 times a year is a must.
