The Island School, a not-for-profit organization based in The Bahamas, was founded to create and support transformational educational experiences with the vision of leadership effecting change, on the island of Eleuthera. The diverse educational initiatives, including our High School Semester and Summer Term, Deep Creek Middle School, Elementary Learning Center, and our Community Engagement and Partnerships, deliver unique educational journeys in conjunction with the authentic and meaningful work our organization undertakes in research and sustainable development at the Cape Eleuthera Institute, our research, and innovation hub. Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Communications & Marketing, the Communications Project Manager will work as part of a team of people who are collectively responsible for telling The Island School story. The Communications team manages a wide range of requests and projects across the organization. Within this team, the Communications Project Manager will take a lead role in the execution of departmental projects, as well as the organization and management of content through various media channels and communication strategies. This individual will think creatively and strategically about our varied audiences and communication tools while carefully managing schedules, timelines, and teams to produce thoughtful, compelling content that effectively tells our story. The Communications Project Manager will collaborate with others across the organization to develop content, craft stories, and see projects through to completion.
Prior experience in a Communications or Marketing team is essential, along with excellent planning, coordinating, writing, and editing skills. The successful candidate will be organized, flexible, and able to manage multiple priorities at one time. In order to succeed as a member of the Communications team and fulfill our role in telling a comprehensive story, the Project Manager should have an interest in education, working with youth, and supporting our organizational goals of living well in a place and stewarding future leaders in our world.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Working with Communications team members to develop project plans, including identifying deliverables, key milestones, and timelines
- Managing the execution of departmental projects, ensuring the prioritization and advancement of strategic priorities, while adhering to established timelines, target dates, scope, and budget
- Assisting in the development and execution of strategies to further brand recognition
- Collaborating with Communications team members, education program leaders, and other community stakeholders to generate creative, engaging content for various media channels
- Crafting content and gathering stories for The Island School blog and other news channels
- In partnership with the Director of Communications, seeking opportunities to appear in local, national, and international press
- Overseeing the maintenance, user experience design, and general content management of the organizationās website, ensuring all content and features are up-to-date including news stories, enrollment information, and annual downloads
- Regularly reviewing website analytics and as necessary, making recommendations to improve content, traffic, and user experience
- In conjunction with the advancement office, planning, managing, and executing email campaigns and regular communications in MailChimp or current CRM platform
- Assisting with planning social media campaigns and making recommendations regarding content enhancements, timelines, and creative strategy
- Assisting with photo & video capture, event coverage, and other shared team responsibilities as needed
- Contributing to weekly meetings and other aspects of the Communications team operations and planning as needed
- Any other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- 4-5 years of professional experience in Communications, Marketing, or a related field
- A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in delivering successful projects, including project creation, execution and evaluation
- Exceptional writing & editing skills
- Experience with social media marketing and content creation
- Experience with WordPress and Mail Chimp or an equivalent CRM platform
- Experience with website management, Google Analytics and SEO
- A commitment to the core values of The Island School including education, conservation, and sustainable design
- Interest and comfort with photo and video capture
- A collaborative spirit and interest in Communications and Marketing
- Willingness to relocate
- Flexibility and a sense of adventure for remote island living
