COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER / SENIOR COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER, BRUSSELS

E3G is looking for a Communications Officer or Senior Communications Officer, based in its Brussels Office to support the delivery of E3G’s mission and profile-building activities.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic comms

• Involvement in planning and organising of influencing strategies around EU-level outcomes.
• Coordinate E3G’s content delivery and dissemination around key moments in European politics and policymaking – when necessary, in coordination with wider community of climate actors.

2. Content delivery

• Ensuring comms outputs follow strategic comms principles, SEO requirements, a clear writing style, the E3G’s publications guidelines, and the E3G’s style guide. This includes copy-editing and working with E3G staff to make writing sharper.
• Coordinate the creation and publication of impactful op-eds, briefings, and press materials in English, and their distribution to European journalists. This includes formatting and copy-editing, sometimes writing.
• Uploading to the E3G website, Search Engine Optimisation, social media, newsletter, and event work.

3. Comms support

• Whenever necessary, support E3G Comms team’s work beyond Brussels or EU-related scope.
• Help Brussels-focused staff plan their comms strategies and outputs ahead of time.
• Producing and presenting guides on comms aspects that the Brussels-based staff needs improvement with.
• Organising or directly providing comms trainings covering specific needs of the Brussels staff.

4. Media work

• Establish and maintain good relationships with journalists, both Brussels-based and in EU capitals, covering Europe or climate issues.
• Monitor E3G’s EU media activity, regularly report internally with key takeaways, and upload relevant quotes on E3G’s website.
• Identify media opportunities, handle and coordinate press enquiries and position team members.
• Support the creation and distribution of press briefings and press releases in English to European journalists.
• Manage, update, and expand E3G’s database of EU journalists.

5. Organisational work

• Contribute to E3G coordination of comms activities by ensuring visibility over planned outputs from E3G’s Brussels office.

• Ensure Brussels-focused outputs are listed on E3G’s comms calendar.

• Support the organisation and promotion of public events.

• Organising and chairing monthly meetings between the Brussels office and the Comms team, to ensure coordination on EU-related comms.

• Coordinate with comms team of external partner organisations on a regular basis or around specific outcomes or projects

• Any other reasonable management request, such as compiling information for reporting purposes.

Experience and Skills

The successful candidate will have:

• At least four years of professional communications experience, ideally in the field of environmental policy, non-for-profits, government, or EU affairs.

• Knowledge of EU climate and related policy areas, and experience influencing political dynamics in the Brussels landscape.

• Experience working on website content management systems.

• Excellent writing and proof-reading skills with good attention to detail.

• Native or fluent English speaker.

• Experience in press and media relations.

• Highly developed interpersonal skills.

• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

• Able to establish rapport easily, creating trust with colleagues.

• Positive, enthusiastic and creative self-starter.

This role is offered on a 12-month contract basis with a view to further extension.  Must have the right to work in Belgium.

Salary will be based on experience, skills and qualifications. The salary band for Comms Officer at E3G in Brussels start at €33,000, with Senior Comms Officer starting from €42,000 (Brussels office).
