Communications Manager (Six to Nine Month Contract)

The post-holder will lead on communications, marketing and events for the Transition Plan Taskforce (TPT).

Background to E3G

E3G is an independent climate change think tank with a global outlook. We are world leading strategists on the political economy of climate change, dedicated to achieving a safe climate for all. E3G provides (jointly with UK CGFI) the Secretariat to the Transition Plan Taskforce.

The TPT was launched by HM Treasury in April 2022 to develop a gold standard for private sector climate transition plans. More information on the TPT can be found at www.transitiontaskforce.net.

Role purpose

In 2022 the TPT consulted on a Disclosure Framework and Implementation Guidance to support the development of high quality transition plans from the market. In 2023 the TPT will publish further outputs and will work to ensure maximum awareness and uptake by stakeholders both in the UK and internationally.

This role within the TPT Secretariat team will develop and deliver the TPT’s communications, marketing and events strategy to ensure desired stakeholder impact.

This will be a short-term contract starting as soon as practical and ending no later than 31st December 2023.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic vision: Co-developing, managing and delivering a TPT communications strategy including key messages, priority audiences and channels, key events. Oversee the achievement of key performance indicators for success in TPT communications.
  • Cultivating direct relationships: Build and manage relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including: communications teams within financial institutions, companies, regulators and government departments; event organisers; journalists; NGOs and other organisations working on initiatives related to the work of TPT.
  • Ensuring high-quality delivery support: Work with service providers to TPT including e.g. website provider, design agency, PR agency and ensure that services are delivered to TPT on time and to high quality specifications.
  • Event management: Working across the TPT team, and in particular with the support of a Contracts and Event Manger, to ensure that TPT organises high-quality, impactful events and that TPT representatives are speaking at key industry conferences and international events.
  • Social media management: Manage TPT social media accounts (Twitter and LinkedIn) and keep up regular and relevant post scheduling in order to ensure that key information is communicated to stakeholders in an engaging way in line with the TPT’s overall communication style and branding.
  • Newsletter management: Managing the process of sending a regular email newsletter to TPT contacts, including ensuring compliance with GDPR.

Person description

You will be able to manage a number of discrete projects simultaneously and balance competing deadlines. You are an intellectually curious and highly organised self-starter with a strong interest in (and preferably some prior experience of) the opportunities and challenges around climate change. You are a creative thinker, able to learn fast and to work flexibly with a range of people. You are prepared to go the extra mile to deliver high quality outputs to challenging deadlines. You are confident engaging with large numbers of stakeholders and ensuring high quality outcomes.

Experience and skills

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate, with examples:

  • the ability to work in a small team and in a fast-paced environment, and to assimilate new and potentially complex or technical information in order to inform the delivery of clear, understandable messages that have a persuasive narrative style and are tailored for different audiences.
  • relevant professional experience and responsibilities in strategic communication, ideally in the context of the climate transition, with a track record of proactive management of communications activity for an organization or initiative;
  • experience of organizing and promoting events, and of building event partnerships including marketing speakers for third party events;
  • experience of managing social media and web content;
  • experience of proactive and reactive communication with a wide range of stakeholders including journalists and communications professionals;
  • experience of managing the work of third party providers such as website providers, designers, copywriters and PR agencies;
  • the ability to plan and organise your own work in the context of a multi-functional team.

What we offer you

We will consider employing this post-holder on either a staff or a consultancy basis. The role is envisaged to be full-time but we will consider applications for part-time or flexible working.

E3G offers a competitive remuneration package for a non-profit organisation, based on qualifications and experience.

Location

This role is anticipated to be based in London including at E3G’s office in Southwark, requests for flexible working in the UK will be considered.
