Communications and Events Coordinator, Food and Land Use Coalition

🇬🇧 London, GB 📝 PART-TIME

This position will be based out the WRI Europe office in London. Existing work authorization for UK is required at the time of application submission. WRI is unable to sponsor visa work authorization for this position.

This position will be part-time (20 hours per week).

About the Program:

The Food and Land Use Coalition (FOLU) is a self-governed international coalition of organizations and individuals working collaboratively to achieve a shared objective: the urgent transformation of food and land use systems to deliver a better future for people, nature and climate. Through an evidence-based approach, the coalition, which includes nine global partners, six country platforms and over 50 Ambassadors, empowers farmers, policymakers, businesses, investors, and civil society to unlock collective action at scale.

Job Highlight:

FOLU seeks a part-time (50%) Communications and Events Specialist to join the coalition’s global Communications and Marketing team. You will have a strong focus on events that FOLU hosts or takes part in. This includes coordinating the preparation and the execution of such virtual or in-person events. For this, you will collaborate with colleagues across teams and countries. In this role, you will also support media engagement and social media activities and be involved in a range of other key communications and marketing activities including writing and editing, presentations, and website maintenance. You will be part of the coalition’s Global Secretariat and have the opportunity to apply hands-on communications skills daily, working closely with subject-matter experts and communications colleagues across FOLU’s country platforms. You will be part of a highly motivated team using communications to accelerate the transformation of food and land use systems. You will be based in London and work closely with the Senior Communications Associate and the Communications Specialist. You will report to the Communications and Marketing Manager.

What will you do:

Events management (25%):

  • Support the delivery of FOLU’s events strategy to ensure that FOLU is hosting strategic events and taking part in key international conferences. This strategy is jointly developed by the Communications & Marketing and the Knowledge & Engagement teams
  • Create and update a calendar of international events FOLU aims to participate in and continuously search for new speaking opportunities
  • Write proposals for side-events (event focus, format, suggested speakers etc.)
  • Develop and coordinate events hosted by FOLU – from the concept note to the delivery. This could include suggesting speakers, sending invitations, writing a run of show, coordinating rehearsals, producing the event, coordinating the production by third parties and writing events reports to capture impact

Other key communications activities (25%):

  • Media: help draft briefing notes for FOLU spokespeople ahead of interviews
  • Digital: support social media activities (create posts, toolkits etc.) and help maintain FOLU’s global website (create and upload content)
  • Editorial: help draft and/or edit blogs; key messages, PPT presentations, talking points and other communications materials
  • Help coordinate communications activities across the FOLU Coalition, including through working closely with FOLU’s global communications network and WRI’s Core Communications team

What will you need:

  • Education: You have a completed bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, international relations, public policy, or a related field. Relevant experience will be accepted in lieu of a bachelor’s degree
  • Experience: You have 1+ years of full-time, relevant experience in communications, journalism, public relations, event management or a similar field. Relevant internships may be counted in the years of experience
  • You have experience with event planning and logistics
  • You have experience producing written work and editing
  • You have experience working within diverse teams and with varied partners
  • You have knowledge of digital content, including web copy, blogs, and social media is desirable
  • Experience with Content Management Systems (CMS) such as WordPress or Squarespace is desirable
  • Experience with digital monitoring and marketing platforms such as Cision, Meltwater, Brandwatch and Mailchimp is desirable
  • Basic graphic design and PowerPoint skills are desirable
  • Requirements: UK work authorization is required at the time of application.

Potential salary:  £30,974 - £37,168 (this salary will be prorated to 50%)

Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
