Communications and Engagement Specialist, Land & Carbon

🇺🇸 United States 📝 FULL-TIME

This position is remote-eligible and only for consideration within the United States where WRI is state registered. Existing work authorization is required at the time of application submission. WRI is unable to sponsor any visa work sponsorship for this position.

About the Program:

Land & Carbon Lab (LCL) is WRI’s premier hub for geospatial data, analysis, and monitoring of the world’s land and its natural ecosystems. Our data and monitoring solutions, which include the Global Forest Watch platform, exist to help accelerate implementation and financing of nature-based solutions worldwide. LCL has three main offers: (1) innovation in open geospatial data for land and carbon monitoring, (2) spatial intelligence to support nature-based solutions policy and target tracking, and (3) tailored tools that help businesses, governments, civil society organizations, and local communities make data-driven decisions. Job Highlight:

In this role, you will work closely with the Land & Carbon Lab Senior Engagement Manager and the Senior Communications Manager, Land and Forests to ensure delivery of public-facing content and activities, such as social media products, website content, events, and more. You will also have an opportunity to grow in the role by overseeing social media content and strategy, leading event coordination, and offering new research on audiences and tools to increase LCL’s impact. You will report to the Senior Communications Manager, Land and Forests, and will work with fellow members of the Land and Forests Comms team.

What will you do:

Communications (60%):

  • Writing: Work with colleagues to draft media talking points, social media content, blogs, website and email content, and other comms outputs
  • Strategy: provide input into language and messaging for social media, print media, website content, and other channels
  • Social media: help identify and develop written and visual social media assets for LCL channels, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and support scheduling, social media toolkit production, and analytics reporting to inform and adjust strategies
  • Web development support: assist the Digital Writer and Editor and internal and external web developers in website content updates and redesign projects
  • Multimedia: work with colleagues and graphic designers to support development of infographics, data visualizations, videos, and other multimedia comms outputs

Engagement (30%):

  • Maintain a calendar of international moments that inform the policy and political dialogue related to Land and Forests
  • Be the main point of contact for external events – both virtual and in-person – such as our flagship event, the 2023 Land & Carbon Lab Summit
  • Coordinate internal engagements across the WRI network to ensure Land & Forests solutions are supporting institutional priorities
  • Support the Senior Engagement Manager to identify influencers and champions to broaden the impact of Land & Carbon Lab insights
  • Be the secondary point of contact for the Senior Engagement Manager

Communications and Engagement Coordination (10%):

  • Use project management applications to update and track progress on Engagement and Communication activities, including tracking deadlines, deliverables, scheduling meetings, and organizing and circulating resources
  • Support analytics and reporting, including creating reports that capture outcomes of outreach campaigns to share with the team and donors
  • Collaborate with colleagues to identify and collect user stories, testimonials, and other examples of how our solutions are supporting tangible on the ground impact

What will you need:

  • Education: You have a completed BA or BS degree in a relevant field (communications, journalism, environmental studies, or similar) degree.
  • Experience: You have a minimum of 3+ years full-time relevant work experience in communications.
  • You should have experience producing professional written and oral communications, and coordinating communications projects with Microsoft Office tools.
  • You might also have experience developing and executing marketing campaigns, and using email marketing or social media management platforms, event planning tools such as Zoom, or project management applications such as asana or Monday.com.
  • Familiarity with international environmental issues or data and technology is a plus.
  • Language: You have verbal and written proficiency in English.
  • Requirements: Existing work authorization is required where this position is based. WRI is unable to authorize visa work authorization.

Potential Salary:  Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors. WRI offers a competitive remuneration and benefits package.
