Systemic Justice is looking for a Climate Justice Organiser who can help plan and execute our work to build BIPOC power in the European climate movement.
Position type: Full-time (4 days per week, 32-hour work week)
Duration: 12 months
Pay range: 27-37 EUR per hour
Location: Remote, based in Europe
About the role
The Climate Justice Organiser will be involved in helping the development of Systemic Justice’s climate justice work, coordinating projects, maintaining our relationships with stakeholders, and supporting the planning and rollout of a European BIPOC climate justice summit, as well as a podcast and speaker series.
With this project, we will support building the power of Black, indigenous, and people of colour-led organisations working on the intersection of climate and racial, social, and economic justice. By connecting BIPOC leaders and BIPOC youth activists and amplifying their collective voices we will help ensure that Europe’s attempt at addressing the climate crisis is targeting the many harms that BIPOC communities are resisting across the region.
Our work is rooted in our foundational values of anti-oppression, intersectionality, and justice. We are looking for someone who shares these values and for whom the prospect of operationalising these in our day-to-day work, both internally and externally, is an exciting prospect.
About Systemic Justice and the project
Systemic Justice supports communities in their fight for justice and equality. It is the first Black-led, majority BPOC organisation in Europe working on strategic litigation and it is currently developing projects focussed on climate justice and social protection.
Systemic Justice is launching a coalition of Black, indigenous, and people of colour-led organisations and youth initiatives to help ensure that Europe’s response to the climate crisis properly addresses its intersectional harms, and to build a shared vision of true climate justice. Black, indigenous, and communities of colour in Europe are disproportionately affected by the climate crisis. Addressing the climate crisis while addressing compounded harms like structural racism is at the heart of Systemic Justice’s intersectional approach to climate justice.
Systemic Justice is coordinating with strategic partners in Europe to optimise synergies and amplify each other’s work to build BIPOC power in the climate movement. By building on this collaboration and creating a network of community-led climate justice organisations and movements, we can build collective power to ensure that an intersectional approach becomes central to the current climate debate, as well as legislative and policy efforts, to create meaningful and significant structural changes that will enhance the lives of BIPOC communities disproportionately affected by the climate crisis.
Towards this objective, Systemic Justice is undertaking the following three tracks of work:
This work will be amplified by connecting it to networks in Europe working on racial justice, social justice, and disability justice.
