Jobs with Justice San Francisco is hiring a
Climate Jobs Organizer
Reports to: Deputy Director
Jobs with Justice San Francisco (JWJSF) is a long term, multi-racial alliance of labor unions and community groups supporting workers’ rights and fighting for economic, racial and gender justice. Our member groups represent service workers, domestic workers, healthcare workers, educators, city workers, seniors, people with disabilities, tenants, students and more. Our coalition connects people—workers, Black and Brown people, immigrants, queer and, gender-oppressed folks—to build collective power.
We believe as Audre Lorde said, there is no thing as a single-issue struggle because we do not live single-issue lives_._ Working people need good jobs with dignity and a voice at work, quality and equitable public education, affordable housing and a liveable climate. We see economic, racial and gender justice as intersecting and necessary to each other. Our current program focuses on workers rights, housing justice and climate justice.
By building a strong multiracial and multi-issue alliance rooted in long-term relationships and solidarity, we have the power to win real systems change. Our victories in San Francisco include being among the first in the country to win a $15 minimum wage, tuition-free higher education program and fair scheduling laws for retail workers. With a history of precedent-setting innovation, we make real differences in people’s lives, build the power of workers and communities of color and spark movements nationwide.
Job purpose
The Climate Jobs Organizer is an exciting new position to build worker and coalition power to win victories for strategic work on climate, jobs and equitable transition in California. Working with JWJSF’s Climate Jobs & Equitable Transition campaign team, close partner Labor Network for Sustainability and California Labor for Climate Jobs, a statewide coalition of partner unions, the State Climate Jobs Organizer will build the power and leadership of labor organizations (unions and worker centers) and their members on the nexus of climate, economic and racial justice issues; mobilize workers to support statewide advocacy; and work to change the narrative so that strong climate action is seen as an opportunity to create good, union jobs.
While the majority of the Climate Jobs Organizer’s position will focus on our Climate & Equitable Transition campaign, each position at JWJSF is an integral part of a collaborative staff team that develops, plans, coordinates, and wins collective coalition campaigns across issues. The Organizer will contribute to the overall strategic direction of JWJSF by supporting the coalition’s annual campaign planning processes, and providing direct insight into this process.
