Business Development Manager - Energy Transition Services

Your Opportunity

Dillon is looking for a Business Development Manager for the Energy Transition (ET)  Business Unit (BU) to join our multidisciplinary team of professionals. Working closely with and reporting to the Manager, Business Unit (MBU), you will have the opportunity to take on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience.

At Dillon, we operate as one team. This position will function with the Dillon team throughout Canada and can be based out of any of our 23 office locations across the country with the opportunity for remote and flexible work arrangements to help balance the competing demands of work and personal life.

Responsibilities

Building the Business and Technical Sales (57%)

  • Lead meetings and presentations with private sector clients to explore the business case and operational requirements related to potential energy transition solutions.
  • Identify, develop and manage day-to-day market opportunities for the BU
  • Work directly with the client and lead internal teams to create detailed energy solutions.
  • Followup with clients to monitor performance of our service delivery and incorporate feedback to improve client satisfaction.
  • Keep our team up-to-date on emerging technologies and identify future growth  opportunities
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and Management in growing our team capacity to service our clients and deliver strategic initiatives
  • Participate in conferences, webinars, and industry events
  • Build and develop relationships with clients and vendors to better understand the client needs and expand the reach of possible solutions.
  • Achieve backlog matched to the capacity of our technical teams as allocated by the MBU
  • Create an inclusive and diverse working environment
  • Monitor pricing strategy/framework at the BU scale
  • Identify and mitigate risks

Project Delivery (40%)

  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert to Dillon's clients on a range of energy transition and decarbonization technologies, inclusive of proven technologies of solar, wind, geothermal, biogas, and energy efficiency
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members including engineers, planners, scientists, and technical and administrative support staff to successfully deliver on ET projects. This will include engagements that require business advisory services, regulatory approvals, project implementation, and operations.
  • Coordinate and manage relationships with subcontractors, subconsultants, and stakeholders
  • Pursue research, analyze policies, interpret regulations, and review incentive programs to assist clients in understanding the opportunities and risk for investments in new energy technologies
  • Conduct due diligence for clients that are seeking to balance their energy asset portfolio through mergers and acquisitions.
  • Lead and coordinate report writing and preparation of technical memos, letters, reports and proposals

Learning & Development (3%)

  • Self-development and ongoing learning and professional development
  • Input to the career development of junior staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching and mentoring
  • Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees
  • Provide internal technical presentations to raise awareness of energy transition solutions across Dillon

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in a related field: engineering alternative energy technology, sustainable development, energy management
  • Master’s degree or a Post-graduate education in a related field

Good to have

  • Understanding of the carbon offset market
  • Understanding in process modeling, energy yield assessment and relevant statistical analysis
  • Various professional certifications such a Professional Engineer, Certified Engineering Technologist, Certified Energy Manager

Experience

  • 7+ years  of professional experience in the energy sector, preferably in the consulting industry
  • Familiarity with building energy systems is preferred
  • Strong computer skills (Excel) with the ability to quickly learn new platforms
  • Detail oriented with solid analytical skills and ability to synthesize data points into trends beyond the mainstream
  • Energetic, self-motivated and an ability to perform under pressure and meet time sensitive deadlines, sometimes for extended periods of time
  • Previous work experience in a professional services environment is preferred
  • Experience in the implementation of energy conservation and renewable energy solutions, inclusive mechanical, electrical, thermal, and HVAC systems within a facility or operation.
  • Strong project management skills and knowledge of energy project lifecycle
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Openness to travel domestically

Good to have

Our preferred candidate will have strong communication, report writing, organization and interpersonal skills with the greatest possible combination of experience in the following areas:

  • Experience with helping manufacturing or agi-food and beverage clients measure and mitigate Scope 1, 2, and/or 3 emissions
  • Strong knowledge of decarbonization strategies, particularly in the Commercial and Industrial sector
  • Demonstrated knowledge of technology, theories, regulatory issues, and economics of Canadian energy system and the clean technology industry
  • Application of the ISO 14060  family of standards to support corporate decisions related to identifying emission reduction solutions, carbon risk management and financial planning.
