Our Salt Lake City, Utah office is seeking a Project Engineer to support projects located in Utah and across the U.S. This position offers a wide variety of project design opportunities including assisting with stream, wetland, and tidal marsh restoration; water quality treatment retrofits; and coastal/living shoreline design projects.

This position is an hourly, full-time position working in hybrid fashion from Utah.  This position can hired at either the Associate Project Restoration Engineer level or the Project Restoration Engineer level.

• Associate Project Restoration Engineer – Typically with at least 5 years of relevant experience and expertise.
• Project Restoration Engineer – Typically with at least 7 years of relevant experience and expertise.

The selected candidate must have a strong skill set in hydraulics, hydrology, and AutoCAD Civil 3D a as well as a working knowledge of GIS principles.

What you will accomplish

• Participate in the engineering design, reporting, and development of construction plans for the above listed project types.
• Participate in field work to assess existing site conditions, assess reference reach sites, and perform geomorphic surveys.
• Develop construction plans within the AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation platforms.
• Perform hydraulic, hydrologic, and water quality assessments, modeling, and analysis in support of the above listed projects.
• Communicate and work with project managers to keep projects on schedule and on budget.
• Attend and participate in annual internal design training meetings to support personal-skills growth and career planning.
• Work independently and multi-task regularly in a fast-paced environment; work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Experience and qualifications for success

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (civil, environmental, or coastal engineering)
• Five (5) years of professional experience in ecosystem design
• Ability to travel on short-term overnight efforts to collect field data and meet with clients, up to 15% of the time.
• Utah P.E. certification (Professional Engineer)
• Experience with HEC-RAS and other hydraulic and hydrologic modeling and analysis software.
• Experience developing ecological restoration design construction plans in AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Preferred:

• Seven (7) years of professional experience in ecosystem design.
• Experience managing small to medium sized projects with limited oversight.
• Experience mentoring and successfully delegating tasks to junior team members.

An employee in this Salt Lake City-based position can expect a salary of $76,960–$98,800/year at the Associate Project Restoration Engineer level and a salary of $67,600–$87,360/year at the Assistant Project Restoration Engineer level. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
