Ethos Urban is hiring an

Associate Director, Project Advisory & Management

🇦🇺 Sydney, NSW, AU 📝 FULL-TIME 🎯 EXPERIENCED

About the Opportunity

As a result of recent continuing growth and a strong pipeline of exciting new projects, urban development consultancy Ethos Urban is seeking an Associate Director, Project Advisory & Management to join our growing team in Sydney. The role will suit a dynamic and passionate individual looking to take the next step in their professional career.

Our ideal candidate will have experience working within an urban development consultancy or professional services business engaged in project advisory and management with a background in a specialty in either planning, design, engagement or economics. Qualification in project management is desirable, but not necessary as this management role is front-end strategic urban development planning and advisory not back-end construction process driven. The ability to “speak the language” of the strategic and approval phase of urban development projects and manage risks before they become issues being one of the most valuable skills.

If you are a motivated, strategic thinker with a strong passion to create better urban experiences, we welcome your application. You would be an integral part of a strong Project Advisory and Management team that leads some of our bigger, integrated urban development projects through their initial strategic and approval phase. The key to effective project management is good communication. So if you have good communication skills and a desire to manage some of the most interesting property advisory projects the State has to offer, we want to hear from you.

Key responsibilities

As an Associate Director, Project Advisory and Management you will:

  • Have an existing personal industry profile and strong emerging sales focus and client/ industry relationships that can be leveraged to assist in the growth of the team and our offering.
  • Contribute to the growth of the business by understanding the markets we serve and key opportunities, with a focus on long term pipeline, with the skills to help procure such opportunities.
  • Provide advice directly to a range of clients across both private and government authorities, and manage medium to large complex projects to ensure the quality of projects is maintained, thus preserving the business’s established reputation with clients for advice and solutions within the marketplace.
  • Have experience in leading and writing compelling value driven proposals for clients and partners, including scoping of projects, budgets and articulating our value proposition through service and solution-based thinking.
  • Lead the preparation of project briefs, risk management plans, procurement processes and all aspects of consultant team management through the strategic advisory and approval phases of precinct planning, structure planning and master planning projects.
  • Be the single point of contact and trusted advisor to clients and advise and strategise to mitigate project risk.
  • Work across a wide range of projects and services across the organisation’s diversified portfolios, including as part of multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Guide, mentor & manage our emerging junior staff, a true advocate for talent
  • Project manage other staff including delegating, supervising, and reviewing work and delivering projects within budget and scope, quickly identifying and dealing with ‘scope-creep’ issues and fee variations.

Who we are looking for

  • Tertiary qualifications in Project Management, Planning, Design, Economics, Communications and/or a Built Environment related degree/discipline.
  • Diverse, demonstrated industry experience.
  • Project Management experience managing strategic planning projects and large development applications including the management of large consultant teams.
  • Experience within professional consulting services (highly desirable).
  • Highly developed organisational and project management skills, with a nimble and positive attitude to manage a range of different projects and deliverables at the same time.
  • An interest in active business development with a view to working closely with the Project Advisory and Management Director in winning new work.
  • Understanding and experience of planning, development or infrastructure approval processes.
  • A strong team player with an interest in helping further develop our Project Advisory and Management service offering
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and presentation skills.
