Department Description

The Legal Team primarily provides legal services to refugees, ensuring that they have access to justice, get necessary support during the refugee status determination (RSD) process and have  information on  Long Term Legal Solutions (LTLS). The Legal Team is overseen by the Protection Program Coordinator and includes the RSD, Protection and Interpreter Program and Paralegal Project Team Leads, RSD and Protection Officers, RSD and Protection VLAs, Screening and Intake Officers, Interpreter Program and Paralegal Project Assistants, Interpreters and Paralegals.

Position Description

Under the guidance of the Interpreter Program and Paralegal Project Team Lead, the Interpreter Program Assistant will be responsible for ensuring the day to day functioning of the Interpreter Program.and organizing trainings for and meetings with AAT’s interpreters.

​​Key Responsibilities

All responsibilities will be undertaken under the guidance and support of the Interpreter Program and Paralegal Project Team Lead.

Daily administration (35%):

  • Ensure interpreters undertake accurate timesheet recording on a daily basis;
  • Coordinate written translation requests and review for quality assurance;
  • Ensure interpreters work in accordance with AAT standards, including with regards to time management;
  • Ensure availability of interpreters for client appointments and events and make rearrangements when required;
  • Collect interpreters’ feedback on how effectively AAT staff work with interpreters and follow best practices in working with interpreters;
  • Assist in the development and utilization of an interpreter glossary;
  • Maintain records and undertake all administrative paperwork duties for the Interpreter Program; and
  • Other related duties.

Trainings and Meetings (60%):

  • Support team lead in identifying training topics and trainers, and in undertaking collaboration efforts with other organizations;
  • Design agenda and materials, in consultation with team lead;
  • Coordinate with interpreters to determine suitable dates and times;
  • Conduct aspects of the trainings and meetings, including ice-breaking/social activities;
  • Provide stand by support to invited internal and external trainers and  facilitators, when required;
  • Maintain records, participant lists and timesheets, collect documents and prepare paperwork for submission to finance department; and
  • Other related duties.

Other (5%):

  • Provide front desk administrative support as required;
  • Actively engage in design and implementation of own learning and development plan;
  • Attend and participate in AAT staff meetings as required; and
  • Adhere to the AAT Code of Conduct, policies, and manuals.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Reports to: Interpreter Program and Paralegal Project Team Lead

Qualifications

  • Lived experience of forced displacement;
  • Understanding of and/or experience working in interpreter and/or legal services;
  • Organization and communication skills;
  • Ability to take initiative, proactively follow up, manage multiple deadlines, and work effectively with a high attention to detail;
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Gmail, Google Drive and related tools (Docs, Sheets, Calendar, etc.); and
  • Ability to fluently speak and write in English and/or Thai.

Salary and Benefits

The Interpreter Program Assistant will receive a monthly payment of THB 30,000 per month, health insurance and vacation and other leave days.

Hours and Location of Work

The Interpreter Program Assistant is a full-time, one-year contract position based in our office in Bangkok, Thailand.  Candidates should be aware that some flexibility regarding working hours is required in order to complete duties outside of standard office hours.
