Responsibilities

Location: This is a remote role with the option of being hybrid in our Austin or Raleigh office. There is a preference for candidates located in Texas, Louisiana, or North Carolina.

Program Overview

Environmental Defense Fund is embarking on a new approach to global climate solutions through the creation of the EDF Office of Collaboration and Community Engagement (OCCE). Home to the many of the brightest minds and talent in the environmental sector, EDF is a leader in providing solutions to the world’s biggest environmental problems. By taking a people focused view of our work, OCCE works alongside diverse stakeholders and constituency groups to help meet the growing need to provide collaborative and efficient implementation strategies for equitable climate solutions. The new office provides a platform to connect partners, leverage resources and scale solutions through innovative community engagement strategies.

Overall Function

The Analyst, Community Engagement will be a key team member of the U.S. Region team’s Office of Collaboration and Community Engagement. As a part of the Community Engagement workstream, this position supports relevant goals and strategies through conducting basic to moderately complex secondary research and analysis, coordinating research and activities within EDF teams and with external partners, and synthesizing information for various stakeholders. This position will primarily focus supporting EDF’s petrochemical strategic initiative which aims to improve the wellbeing of communities living within industrial corridors through community-driven solutions. The Analyst will report to the Manager, Community Engagement.

Key Responsibilities

• Researching, analyzing, and synthesizing information on a variety of relevant topics, including policies, to inform the design and development of OCCE projects, with a primary focus on petrochemicals.
• Develop reports, fact sheets, blog posts, and brochures for general and specific audiences on diverse topics, including petrochemical pollution, plastics, public health, environmental justice, climate solutions, economic impacts, and additional community priorities.
• Coordinate activities among EDF staff members, external consultants, academic partners, community leaders, and government officials, including but not limited to assessing needs, facilitating correspondence, scheduling meetings, and engaging in relevant intersectional matrix work, in alignment with EDF and OCCE strategies and goals.
• Communicate research and technical findings in writing and orally to multiple stakeholders with varying levels of expertise.
• Participate in advancing EDF DEI goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values.
• Represent EDF in external forums with a high degree of professionalism and cultural competency.
• Build relationships and regularly consult with public agencies, funders, researchers, academics, NGOs, industry representatives, public officials, and other partners.
• Help develop interim grant reports and write up project results for inclusion in papers which may be used for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals by managers.
• Attend OCCE staff meetings, events, and relevant conferences as needed.
• Additional relevant responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of related professional experience in policy analysis, community outreach, environmental justice or advocacy, petrochemicals, or related fields required. A Master’s degree in public health, environmental science, sociology, public policy, or a related field may substitute for up to 2 years of experience. An Associate’s degree may be considered with substantial relevant experience.
• Experience participating in community outreach efforts.
• Experience communicating moderately complex research, data findings, and analyses to diverse audiences.
• Proven ability to conduct secondary research and policy analysis related to climate, equity, public health, labor, economic, or health impacts.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Proactive and attentive to detail.
• Strong problem solving, organizational, time management, and planning skills.
• Strong computer proficiency, including experience with video conferencing tools, Microsoft Office, and Internet research.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to produce data-driven insights and data visualizations using Excel or other applications/languages (e.g. R, Python, SAS).
• Experience with geospatial data using ArcGIS or similar applications preferred.
• Demonstrated self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
• Ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member in support of a highly motivated and fast-paced team working across multiple time zones.
• Must be willing and able to travel up to 20% of the time.

Minimum Salary

USD $57,000.00/Yr.

Maximum Salary

USD $64,000.00/Yr.
